So, you think you might have a cheater? No one likes being in that position, and it is always a hard road ahead if you have that suspicion. Sometimes though, people look right by the many signs of cheating simply because they do not know what to look for. Sure, there are classic examples of lipstick on the collar for men, for example – however, there are many behaviors that both men and women exhibit when they are engaging in cheating behavior that may not be quite as well known. With the information age in full swing and computers milling about, it has caused a wealth of new ways to cheat. However, it is very possible to notice if this is occurring.
For example, is your significant other always on the computer, and you never quite know what they are doing? For example, no matter when you look over at his or her computer station, will there be a generic Google search or blank email on the screen whenever you look at it? This is one of the major signs of cheating, and I call this the, “x-button syndrome.” This means that the moment your significant other notices your attention, they close out the browsing window because they feel guilty. One sign of this means little, but if this is a constant sign, there may be a problem.
While the information age makes it easier to cheat, it also makes it easier to recognize and search for the signs of cheating. For example, plug in your sweetie’s favorite screen names into a search engine, and you might be surprised at what comes up. Perhaps there will be nothing, or maybe there will be accounts on dating websites. This is a simple, non-intrusive way to uncover more information if you suspect a cheater.
Once you suspect a cheater, and have a piece of information or two to confirm, you may want to try looking through phone records – is your sweetie text messaging someone in specific a lot? Do you recognize the number? Try pairing it against numbers in your sweetie’s contact list if he or she leaves a cell phone laying around. If the cell is always attached to your better half’s hip, on the other hand, that may in itself be another bad sign. All in all, the goal is to look for the abnormal. The signs of cheating are not universal, but the more you find in conjunction, the more likely it is to be true. Search carefully.
